Inferior, low-grade rubber is renowned for using fillers and other impurities to reduce costs. By taking shortcuts, the rubber’s overall integrity is compromised, and the result is often premature failure. Seal failure also leads to loss of grease, the #1 reason for failure for universal joints.

GMB Universal Joints are designed to withstand prolonged exposure to a wide range of oils and chemicals, whether exposed to the elements or fully submerged. GMB nitrile rubber can also withstand extreme temperatures from -40 degrees to +120 degrees, without jeopardising functionality or integrity.

Chrome-Molybdenum Steel

Low-grade universal joint steel is subject to cracking and shearing, that in a vehicle, can cause mild to severe vibration and a loss of vehicle control. There are lives and extensive, costly repairs at risk with low-grade steel.

Producing even better strength and durability than standard-grade 1020 steel, GMB uses the highest-grade Chrome-Molybdenum steel on our universal joints to provide superior strength, longer life and the added benefit of corrosion protection.

Proprietary Protective Coating

Universal joints are exposed to all kinds of elements in Australia, such as saltwater, sand, snow and mud to name a few. This exposure leaves a universal joint exposed and subject to oxidation, leading to premature failure during regular operation or under high torque conditions.

GMB Universal Joints are coated in a proprietary protective formula, that includes multiple layers of powder coating applications to provide superior rust and wear resistance. GMB Universal Joints drastically reduce the chances of oxidation forming in small crevices and increases longevity, durability and reliability.

High-Grade Solid Steel Needle Bearings

Low-grade, hollow steel tubular needle bearings without heat treatment are often subject to cracking, warping and excess wear. This can lead to reduced stability and a shorter life expectancy, even under everyday vehicle operations.

GMB Universal Joints are manufactured with superior-grade, solid steel tubular needle bearings that are correctly heat-treated. With these treatments, GMB Universal Joints are designed to withstand extreme temperature changes, higher pressure, excessive torque and loads.
